THE WARNING

We’re sending another note to all of our clients and contacts of to advise of a virus/spam in new disguise in circulation.

The email itself looks genuine and it includes real links to eFax.com and other real advertisements, as seen in illustration 1 below. The flaw exists in the link which suggests that it will navigate you to download your fax/document. By hovering the mouse pointer over the link, as highlighted in illustration 2 and 3, the presented link has a different target compared to what is displayed. You can see this in both the caption box that appears (illustration 2) and in the status bard (illustration 3).

The authors of the email scam have created the hyperlink wither differing “Text to display” and “Address”. Another important point is that the sending address in not from eFax.com, as per other links in the email.

What You Should Do

As always, when receiving emails from external parties, please take the time to analyse the email in full detail, in terms of senders and recipients names, email addresses, language used and consider if the email is of any relevance to you – as this can be the easiest and fastest trigger for preventative action.

While it can be hard to do this in detail for every email, and for emails that are disguised so well, like that in this latest example, we have included a screenshot of the sample email (illustration 1) for your reference. If you receive an email like this, please delete it from your Inbox immediately, and then clear your deleted items. DO NOT click any links or buttons in the body of the email, or reply to the email.
